About La Isla Carinosa Academy
La Isla Cariñosa Academy’s (LICA) online program is a high-quality and well-structured alternative to the formal delivery of the Government’s National Curriculum created by transformational leader, Dr. Alberto Luis August. Being a visionary, innovative, and 30+ years experience educational leader, he was able to transform the LICA physical school program into an innovative cyber classroom for children to enjoy learning at the primary school level. We are a licensed school with the Ministry of Education. We continue to open our online program to all children in the country of Belize and beyond in an effort to consider the health, safety, and wellbeing of our children after the pandemic and ensuring a rewarding learning experience.
Nature of the program: LICA is a fully online cyber classroom primary school. Classes are engaging and interactive with consideration for the wellbeing of students, teachers, and families. We guide each child through the teaching, learning, and assessment processes. Official mid-term reports, end-of-term reports, and an end-of-year report are prepared and issued.
Children are set up with our LICA domain email address and have access to all the online platforms offered by G-Suites. The sessions are operated live on-line via Google Meet and supported by Google Classroom and other apps such as ClassDojo, Quizlet, Kahoot, and Khan Academy. Our class schedule is 8am to 3pm, Monday to Friday, using a combination of live online contact with a trained and skilled LICA teacher and offline activities posted on Google Classroom. Each child is trained to use the platforms and work independently.
Dedicated Educators
We know that learning is easier when you have an excellent teacher. That's why our teachers engage in weekly PD sessions to improve delivery. Our faculty members are passionate about the subjects they teach and bring great enthusiasm and excitement into their lessons.
Socialization
Children socialize with other students, teachers, the principal, other parents, and members of the community in cyberspace and in physical opportunities. Our school does provide a social environment for our students. We do everything that happens in any physical classroom, with exception of that physical touch with each other. We talk, we sing, we dance, we exercise, we debate, we express, and have fun.
First-Rate Curriculum
Our curriculum was uniquely designed by an expert in education and incorporates academics, social skills, leadership skills, creativity, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and expression.
Exciting Extracurriculars
We offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities; ranging from music, sports, chess club, dance, Rubik's cube club, DIY club, cooking club, discovery club, embroidery club, and environmental club.
With the Principal Friday Student Session
For wellbeing and for the school leader to stay connected with students, every Friday at 8am, the principal meets with students to engage in a fun learning session. Different topics are addressed such as being kind, exploring cultures, cooking tips, touring a village, learning abut dinosaurs, talking about heroes, demonstrating first aide, and many other topics all done "with the Principal" live online.
Monthly Family Night Online Socials
To connect with families and provide wellbeing support in the homes, LICA host a monthly Family Social Night at the end of each month, live online. With the entire LICA community, families can watch a movie, present their family members, showcase their family pet, display their singing or musical talent, engage in a comedy session, and so on. The nights are enjoyable for the entire family.
